Job description:


  • Science and engineering have never been more important in Government If you're interested in being a part of building science and engineering capability across government, come and join our passionate and diverse team at the Government Office for Science (GO-Science).
  • This role sits in the Government Science and Engineering (GSE) Profession team within GO-Science, however, as a profession we have a government wide remit and work with stakeholders right across government and beyond.
  • As the Knowledge Exchange Lead, you would increase high demand science and engineering skills across government through supporting the exploration, design and delivery of secondments and placements, as well as broader knowledge exchange, spanning government, academia and industry. This will directly support the GCSA in their role as Head of the GSE profession. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to improve how science and engineering is accessed and supported across government. You will build broad networks with external organisations and develop a good awareness of systems across government, industry and academia.

Person specification:


You will be working to ensure skills are retained and developed in government, by improving how scientists and engineers can gain experience from other sectors and across government.


This will be delivered through the following responsibilities:

  • Lead on the development and management of the Government Science and Engineering Profession's flagship interchange scheme
  • STEM Futures.
  • Lead on building the reputation of STEM Futures, especially across government, through stakeholder engagement and building of networks. This includes senior stakeholders such as chief scientific advisors, senior policy professionals, government reform colleagues, government departments and HR leads.
  • Lead on the management of the technical hubs, including maintaining strong relationships with hub leads, embedding our 'policy pathway', providing GSE input were necessary and providing oversight of reporting.
  • Lead on the development of strategies to grow the programme including development and implementation of new technical hubs in alignment with government priorities and significant stakeholder engagement with potential partners across industry, academia and government.
  • Line manage an HEO to deliver the GSE Profession interchange offer, including events, governance and reporting.
