Norfolk is a large, rural county with a varied landscape including the famous Broads, the dry sandy Breckland, the crumbling cliffs of the north and east - and some of the most fertile soils in Britain.

For most of its history, Norfolk was one of the wealthiest and most densely populated counties of England, and so its archaeology is outstandingly rich.

Norfolk's Finds Identification and Recording Service is a partnership between the British Museum's Portable Antiquities Scheme and the Historic Environment Service of Norfolk County Council.

The service records over 5,000 objects per year on the PAS's database, making it the busiest office in the PAS by quite some distance; it also works closely with the Historic Environment Record and Norwich Castle Museum.

It is based in the Castle Museum Study Centre in the heart of Norwich.

This is an opportunity to join the Finds Identification and Recording Service, recording Norfolk's wide and varied archaeological finds.

Norfolk is one of the biggest offices in the PAS partnership and the team includes individuals specialising in numismatics, photography and illustration.

We are looking for someone able to talk and engage with a broad range of people and members of the public, attending events and outreach activities when necessary, and who can assist in the training, direction and effective management of volunteers and self-recorders.

This post works in partnership with the British Museum, and a knowledge of the Portable Antiquities Scheme and the Treasure Act is expected.

Weekend and Evening work will be required.

Travel throughout Norfolk and to other location such as British Museum will be required.
