We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced
Shipping Coordinator with industry knowledge to join the growing shipping team at Rutherford Appleton Laboratories (RAL).


Supporting the operation in relation to changes to shipping and logistics practice following the departure of the EU is an integral part of this role.

The post holder will ensure that daily and weekly shipping activities and duties are discharged efficiently and timely through organisation and completion of tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Respond to the dispatch workflow
  • All courier functions carried out daily
  • Create labels and handle shipping information
  • Process and dispatch all hazardous materials, correct packing and preparation of Dangerous Goods paperwork
  • Customs clearance and goods in transit monitoring
  • Maintain records, including statements of certificates, costs, products shipped and receipt dates
  • Become conversant on all SHE (H&S) Codes relating to the safe practice and handling of dangerous goods
  • Contribute, support and maintain Standard Operating Processes for tasks and functions to ensure consistent practice
  • Maintain accurate web content on shipping, customs & dangerous goods area of the Logistics website
  • Ensure professional qualifications and mandatory training is kept up to date as well as keeping aligned to industry / customs regulatory changes relating to shipping processes
  • Collaborate closely with Logistics Administration Function to ensure that invoices and related processes are up to date.

About you

  • English and Maths or equivalent GCSE equivalent experience will be considered
  • High level of literacy and numeracy
  • Recent shipping/logistics experience and industry knowledge
  • Managing and undertaking financial processes and transactions e.g. invoicing and recharging
  • Dangerous goods knowledge
  • Experience in recording, maintaining, managing and extracting data from IT systems
  • Handling complaints and service issues calmly and providing resolution
  • Ability to streamline and improve processes and systems
  • Ability to establish, and maintain successful customer and supplier relationships.
