Overall Purpose of the Job:


A Postgraduate research position is available at the University of Manchester funded by a UKSA National Space Innovation Programme (NSIP) funded project: Atmosphere Breathing Electric Propulsion (ABEP) Intake End-to-End Simulation & Design (ABEP-SID).

This role will focus on the development of a numerical simulation tool for ABEP intakes that incorporates end-to-end system dependencies.

Under the guidance of Dr Katharine Smith, the UoM-PI for the project, you will be working with a variety of project partners to develop simulation methods and use these to simulate ABEP intake designs.


Key aspects of the role include:

  • To support research activities in the Space Systems Research group in the School of Engineering focused on Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) satellite technology development.
  • Support the development of suitable simulation tools to enable the execution of endtoend ABEP intake simulation.
