Wavemaker UK is looking for a
Head of Comms Planning to join our growing planning team, to lead the overall planning community at Wavemaker and drive excellence in our unrivalled planning work as well as to be an active member of the wider agency leadership team.


The Head of Planning will want to be part of these transformations, through a keen eye for detail, a passion for creative media thinking, and a desire to be involved in the story of growing brands.


Wavemaker operates as a matrixed organisation with the leadership of discipline leading both the product and the people of that discipline working with others heads of discipline to create the best experience for our clients and our talent.

The comms planning department is around 80-90 people from entry level to partner across our London and Manchester offices.


In this role, you will:


Be an expert in the craft of comms planning:

  • Act as a role model
  • own and champion the Wavemaker Provocative Planning philosophy, ensuring it is cascaded and used across the whole agency.
  • Be a helpful leader by developing thought leadership, landscape and market updates that can be applied across multiple clients, have a clear overview and Wavemaker perspective to them
  • Quality control have final approval of all key planning work that Wavemaker produces, especially new business, awards entries and updates to the planning approach.
  • Raise the floor by developing and leading training solutions across the agency (Media Smarts, planning meetings, cross functional sessions)
  • Raise the ceiling by developing new solutions and methods within planning responses, including innovation and tech solutions that will push the industry and discipline forward.

Be an inspirational leader:


  • Lead the team set the direction of the planning team, working closely with the heads of strategy and channel planning as well as planning leads from around the network.
  • Build a community by instilling the sense that we > me, bringing the planning team together, creating an inclusive culture of sharing, collaboration and
  • Champion comms planning by having a cross agency discipline role as an ambassador for comms planning and the wider team are across the agency and with our clients


  • Lean in

  • Wavemaker is a lean in agency and the leadership should reflect that behaviour by playing an active role on client business and pitches
  • Create new operating models working with client leadership and the commercial team to ensure the right resource is across each piece of business, always looking for new and future facing solutions.
  • Make us famous continue to build the external presence of Wavemaker within the industry, thought leadership, speaking opportunities etc.
