Project Assistant - London STEM Ambassador Hub:

This is a Full-time permanent role (37hrs per week):


Circa £25,000 per annum:

The Role:


The London STEM Ambassador Hub manages a diverse group of volunteers from across science, technology, engineering and maths related professions & studies in the Greater London region.

STEM Ambassador volunteers give up their time to inspire young people and support their STEM education and careers awareness; and the London Hub plays a pivotal role in making these engagements happen.


The London Hub Project Assistant will work as part of a team, led by the London STEM Ambassadors Manager, to support the effective and efficient operation of the London STEM Ambassadors programme.


The role will support the Project Officers and the Manager to work with around 2000 London STEM Ambassadors and 2500 London schools with associated teaching staff.

Support will focus on the data and processes needed to successfully manage so many stakeholders.

The role will also work closely with the national STEM Ambassador programme team to contribute to the development of the STEM Ambassador programme and support the future of the programme.


Accountabilities Expected From This Role:


The Project Assistant will be thorough and attentive to detail, with a clear commitment to providing a good experience for STEM Ambassadors, teachers and other stakeholders using the programme.


Specifically, the Project Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring that teachers have a positive experience when they post a request for STEM Ambassador support.
  • Supporting the team to ensure STEM Ambassadors are motivated and have good quality activities to volunteer on.
  • Inputting, gathering and interpreting data for the team about activities, schools and Ambassadors.
  • Researching organisations, schools and opportunities.
  • Looking for opportunities to simplify processes and administration.

Typical activities could involve but are not limited to:

  • Putting up content on the website
  • Supporting the team to recruit more student STEM Ambassadors at university volunteering fairs
  • Using social media to promote the programme and events
  • Researching data on schools in London
  • Speaking with STEM Ambassadors to support them to log activity

  • Managing large amounts of data and information whilst paying attention to detail
  • Providing excellent customer service to a wide range of programme users
  • Maintaining focus during routine, repetitive tasks
  • Time management and dealing with competing priorities and pressures
  • Ability to manage own workload and also communicate clearly with colleagues to maximise outcomes.

Essential personal skills, competencies and qualities:

  • Good IT skills in MS Office packages
  • Proven ability to manipulate data in spreadsheets.
  • Results focused able to work to tight timelines in a positive and constructive manner
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven planning and organisation skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and selfmotivate
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • High level of personal resilience and ability to relish a challenge
  • A positive and enthusiastic manner

Desirable personal skills, competencies and qualities:

  • Experience in an education role or volunteering role is preferable.
