The appointed External Examiner will be required to moderate samples of work, to view examinations prior to publication, to produce an annual report, and attend Module Assessment Boards in June/July and the Reassessment Module Assessment Boards in September of each year.
An overview of the role and responsibilities includes:
- Providing confirmation that the assessment process in its entirety is sound, and has been fairly conducted
- Confirming the comparability of standards of student performance at University Centre Askham Bryan with those of similar modules at other Higher Education Institutions within the UK;
- Reporting and advising on the above through the approval of coursework and examination papers, and providing an annual report to University Centre Askham Bryan
Previous external examining experience is preferred but not essential as you would have contact with the other external examiners across the department.
The annual rate of payment for this role is £250 per year plus reasonable expenses up to £200 for visits made to the University Centre Askham Bryan campus.
University Centre Askham Bryan is based only 10 minutes by car/taxi from York City Centre. York is very well served by rail links and parking at the college is guaranteed.
As a historical city favoured by national and international visitors York has many hotels, both centrally and closer to Askham Bryan.
