This is a new and exciting volunteering role on our wards in Stockport.


We are looking for a friendly, and enthusiastic person to help support mealtimes within our Older Peoples Mental Health Inpatient Services at The Meadows.

If you want to gain experience, improve your job prospects, or just want to give some of your time to help others, this volunteering role could be for you

This is a rewarding volunteering opportunity within our Older Adult Mental Health Inpatient Services.


Aspects of this role include:


  • Help preparing and clearing dining areas by wiping and setting tables/meal trays, help serve/distribute meals
  • Assist staff who are feeding patients by getting fresh food, cutlery, crockery as directed, replenishing drinks
  • Support identified patients ONLY at mealtimes by: Opening packages, cutting up food, replenishing drinks, reporting to staff re patient's intake, encouraging patients to eat
In addition to afree DBS check, the recruitment process for this role will includetwo relevant referencesand ahealth screen.

You will also undertake a training induction as well as on-going training which is essential to the role.

No previous experience is required for this role; a caring approach and good interpersonal skills are far more important.

Volunteer Recruitment

Please be aware that due to the robust process, recruitment can sometimes take a few weeks.

Throughout the process you will have informal meetings with us and the service where you will be volunteering.

In addition to this we will require you to:


  • Complete an identity (ID) check
  • Complete a Disclosure and Barring Service* (DBS) check,
  • Complete an Occupational health assessment
  • Give details for two references
  • Complete relevant training.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
DBS checks for volunteers arefreeand the level of check is dependent on the role you are undertaking.
