Appointment Clerk - Ophthalmology, Colchester - Full Time

We are looking for an enthusiastic and efficient Appointment Clerks to join the Ophthalmology Team at Colchester.


The post will be based in the Primary Care Centre working alongside Personal Assistants and other Administration staff for the Ophthalmic Surgeons.

The position offers a rare opportunity to join a team with a good reputation, serving our local population of both adults and children.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills and have proven IT experience. The postholder will be responsible for working independently and within a team of administration staff. The postholder will be required to deal with patients face to face and over the phone.

  • Provide clerical assistance to Clinical and Admin Team.
  • Appointment bookings.
  • To take and relay incoming calls to the department, book and rearrange appointments and relieve admin staff in leave of absence.
  • Register referrals, send for grading and update hospital computer system
  • To cover Retinal Suite/theatre reception to book in patients and reconcile appointments
  • Deal with ward attender paperwork and liaise with other members of the admin team
  • Deal with incoming/outgoing mail.
  • Oversee the ordering stationery/forms.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times particularly when processing sensitive information.
  • To participate in departmental meetings/taking minutes as required.
