About the job
The Senior Public Affairs Officer will help to deliver London Fire Brigade's public affairs strategy.

The role will have a strong focus on ensuring that senior officers and personnel are prepared for committee appearances at the London Assembly and otherpublic forums.

The postholder will also work to promote policy positions and ensure that they are communicated effectively in a range of external forums


Key responsibilities:


  • Work with policy specialists on complex policy issues, agreeing objectives for change and devising strategies to achieve them.
  • Working with the Public Affairs Manager
  • Campaigns to prepare briefings before external committee meetings.
  • Assist and support the Public Affairs Manager
  • Campaigns in the delivery of any public affairs activity, carrying out research and attending any public events, as necessary.
  • Conducting research or support any other information gathering exercise and provide administrative support to the Public Affairs team, as required.

Skills, knowledge, and experience:


  • Minimum 3 years working within a large complex organisation or political environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with policy specialists to agree policy positions and solutions to problems identified, and how best to present these to decisionmakers.
  • Excellent knowledge of the political system of the UK, the workings of central government and how policy is made.
  • Excellent communication skills: outstanding writing, editing, and proofreading skills to present complex issues to stakeholders including nonexpert groups and verbal communications skills to be able persuade a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
