The main duties of the job are explained fully in the job description


These involve:

  • Checking, cleaning and preparing all transfer trolleys
  • Establishing a safe working environment for patient and staff and ensure that patient privacy and dignity are not compromised.
  • To transfer patients to and from all clinical areas, report any problems or issues regarding the patient to the relevant staff.
  • Receiving patients in the reception area, checking patients details prior to the procedures.
  • Preparation of the clinical area prior to a procedure
  • Safe moving and handling and positioning of patients.
  • Act as circulating person according to own competencies to supporting the team during surgical procedures.
  • Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained e.g of linen and clinical equipment and report any discrepancies to the staff in charge.
  • Maintain appropriate department documentation - eg theatreman, care plans and electronic records in line with Trust Policy.
  • Refer any untoward incidents to the senior person on duty via IR1 reporting system.
  • Ensure all patient property is returned/transferred to the appropriate ward area.
  • Report any concerns regarding patient safety, complaints or safeguarding issues immediately to a senior member of staff.
To carryout basic observational monitoring, documenting accurately in the patients care pathway and reporting to the qualified staff


Your work base will include both The Royal Blackburn Hospital & the Burnley General Hospital site, you will be required to travel across site as and when the need of the service requires.

You will be required to work on your own initiative, and work independently.

As part of the role, you will be working with vulnerable patients and must maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

You will be required to work in accordance to Trust policy at all times and maintain mandatory training compliance.
