Description
To facilitate an efficient, effective and responsive administrative support including Admission maintenance of waiting lists.

To ensure patients receive appointments (Inpatient/Day Case and Outpatient) in line with all National, Trust and in-house policies.


To maintain a high standard of quality in providing the Choice & Access Service, supporting patient's, clinical staff and the Trust in achieving their goals.


To produce high quality patient information for the Trust to enable maximum use of resources and to support service level agreements and planning of future service.


To assist the Trust in achieving its Choice & Access targets by ensuring theatre lists are fully utilised, and that long wait patients and those Cancelled On The Day are given priority.

To ensure patients receive all relevant information in a timely and effective way.

To ensure all data relating to patients is captured in a timely and accurate manner.


To provide an effective clerical Choice & Access Service to patients, consultants, wards, pre-assessment units and specialist nurses, ensuring that accurate Choice & Access information is maintained at all times.

This will involve the cultivation and maintenance of good relationships with all consultants and other health service employees.


To ensure that all patients are validated and placed on the waiting list in a timely way adhering to targets and that particular attention is given to urgency and procedure involved, ensuring patients are allocated appropriate clinical information and admission details.

Also ensuring all procedures are coded correctly as per OPCS classification.

Manage and maintain waiting lists, liaising with consultants ensuring patients when selected, have adequate notice for pre-operative assessment and admission.

Patients are prioritised according to Patient Treatment Lists, patients who have long waits following periods of suspension, target cancer pathway times and those Cancelled On The Day of operation.

Patients will be allocated admission dates which ensure they do not breach National Wait Target Times.

Any difficulty in achieving this will be reported up as soon as possible, in order that appropriate action can be taken to avoid a waiting list breach.
