Support Worker - Domestic Abuse (BAME)

DURATION:12 Month FTC
HOURS: 40 per week
Develop and deliver a Domestic Abuse Capacity Building Programme for Black Minority Ethnic Communities with the aim of raising awareness of domestic abuse, delivering capacity building opportunities, developing identified domestic abuse champions in BME communities to improve access to advice and support for those affected by DA from the BME community.
Day-to-day duties:
- Develop and deliver a Domestic Abuse Capacity Building Programme for Black Minority Ethnic Communities with the aim of raising awareness of domestic abuse, delivering capacity building opportunities.
- Developing identified domestic abuse champions in BME communities to improve access to advice and support for those affected by DA from the BME community.
- Provide a point of contact and casework support to any survivor over the age of 16 from the BME community who resides in Brighton and Hove where domestic abuse, housing and risk of tenancy breakdown is a factor.
- Establish strong partnership links with a range of services and community groups to ensure the service is accessible to all BME people.
- Deliver a minimum of four multi agency training sessions per year.
- Working closely with key partners, deliver quality, outcome focused support in both onetoone and group sessions, providing both emotional and practical support; including but not limited to keeping safe, healthy relationships, substance use, mental health and wellbeing, finance and budget management and employment skills.
- Identify and signpost customers to any services they may benefit from that is available from partner agencies, supporting customers to access these services; including but not limited to the Housing Benefit department, Mental and Physical Health, Substance support services, Job Centre Plus and individual grant giving organisations. Coordinate a multiagency approach to supporting customers when this is needed.
- To ensure that our customers are supported to stay safe and are aware of their rights to legal protection for themselves, arranging for the provision of legal advice as required and accompanying our customers to appointments if appropriate.
- Maintain up to date risk assessments and support plans for all customers and ensure that safety planning is a major component of this as well as compliance with Stonewater Safeguarding policies and procedures.
- To be an ambassador for the Service, working in partnership with local specialist support agencies and statutory organisations, and ensuring attendance at local meetings and networks where appropriate i.e., MARAC and MASH.
- To promote independent living and support customers to exit from the service in a planned and positive way.
- Support customers to maintain their current accommodation and to pay their rent, service charge and any personal charges in accordance with their occupancy agreement, recognising the importance of being able to effectively manage their finances as a step towards independent living, this includes supporting them to access a bank account and set up direct debits.
- Encourage coproduction with customers, using a range of engagement techniques to seek the views of customers on the service and explore any ideas / improvements for future service provision and support volunteers to access the service and to support activities as appropriate.
- To maintain confidentiality and to ensure that professional boundaries are observed when working with customers, staff and external bodies and ensure Stonewater's business processes, policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
- To take a key role in developing specialist knowledge and remain abreast of developments around supporting those who have experienced domestic abuse and provide an advisory service to the wider team, who work across a range of customers bases, to support them in working with customers who have experienced Domestic Abuse.
- Carry out health and safety checks and risk assessments of the building as requested by your line manager, update associated records and address any identified risks and repairs, and participate in business continuity planning activities as required.
Essentials:
- DBS within the last 12 months
- Strong experience creating and maintaining support plans.
- Supported those with complex needs such a Domestic Violence victims, mixed Mental Health conditions and/or substance misuse
