Your new role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent trainee examiner/inspector to join our CEFA rail contract in the South East

Our CEFA account which was awarded to us in 2009 is to support Network rail. This account is to deliver the Civils Examinations and Assessment Framework Agreements. We are responsible to undertake the examination and assessment of railway structures across the UK.


Trainee examiner/inspector plays an important part in performing all work within the CEFA contract, maximising efficiency, effectiveness and new technology to ensure compliance with all relevant standards.

All duties must be delivered safely and in accordance with the requirements of the client.


The standard hours of work are 37.5


You will be responsible for

  • Carry out site examination of structures to Network Rail standards under mentorship. This is to be done using handheld technology, or other means, to determine structural condition as allocated within the Alarm or other agreed systems and within defined timescales.
  • Compile and submit condition reports using the Alarm electronic system or other agreed process and submit for reviewing by the Examining Engineers team. Note reports will need to be verified by mentoring Examiner.
  • Undertake mentorship reviews to demonstrate attainment work towards attainment of STE competency.
  • Complete required railway, safety and technical training as set out in the training agreement.
  • Perform special examinations as directed including assistance with monitoring schemes for sensitive structures.
  • Undertake reconnaissance visits.
  • Under mentorship undertake oncall duties usually on a 1 in 4 frequency, in support of rapid response, including bridge strike.
  • Assist in provision of safety critical site support duties as required (COSS, ES SWL1 and 2).
  • Cooperate with quality, safety and environmental objectives and contribute, where appropriate, to continual improvement initiatives.

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • C&G / NVQ Level 3 in any relevant building construction trade (additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu on an individual basis).
  • Full driving licence
