Job Overview


You will act as a partner to the TfL operational, maintenance or project teams by providing professional advice, guidance and support on all SHE aspects to ensure relevant business areas are equipped to manage their safety, health and environmental risks effectively.

You will ensure that these teams understand their safety, health and environmental responsibilities and will work with them to drive improvement through the business.

You will champion and advocate for safety, health & environment in everything you do, role modelling what it means to make safety, health and environment personal.

We are looking for a SHE Business Partner to support the following areas:

  • TfL's TTLP team
  • the commercial property arm of Transport for London
  • TfL's Professional Services teams


The SHE Directorate provides an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact and truly shape the future direction of safety, health and environment at TfL and ultimately across London.


Key Accountabilities

  • Provide independent professional SHE technical expertise to stakeholders at all levels in the organisation
  • Understand business specific SHE risks and work with TfL teams to ensure plans are in place to address highest risks.
  • Identify and develop appropriate improvement programmes within the business area, working with the business to implement these programmes. Champion and implement the SHE strategy in respective business area, developing improvement initiatives in line with this
  • Plan and deliver SHE assurance checks which focus on our SHE significant risks to provide confidence to local and senior teams on SHE compliance and performance.
  • Support the business to own local SHE assurance
  • Understand SHE performance trends and use these trends to drive improvements in SHE performance
  • Working with relevant internal and external stakeholders (including regulators) to investigate concerns raised and formally respond to issues as appropriate.
  • Coach the business to understand their SHE accountabilities and challenge to improve their performance and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Deliver SHE training as part of delivery of a wider SHE training programme.
  • Understand and reflect business area requirements back into the SHE team so they can be considered in the development of the SHE strategy and vision.
  • Provide technical advice, best practice sharing and support in incident investigation and learning to the business.
  • Ensure TfL and / or supplier teams undertaking construction and / or design activity are meeting TfL's SHE requirements and active in driving down injury and risk to customers, workforce and members of the public within their activities.
  • Where TfL is acting as the Principal Contractor / Contractor undertake or support management and advisory activity to ensure teams are competent and working to agreed safe systems of work.
  • Understand TfLwide SHE risks and how these impact on business area risks and vice versa.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of safety, health and environmental regulatory, relevant standards and requirements
  • Good understanding of the Mayor's Transport Strategy and TfL's business priorities
  • Good understanding of managing SHE risks and requirements in a safety critical environment
  • Membership of relevant professional body e.g. IOSH, IEMA, CIBSE (Desirable)
  • Related degree or equivalent qualification (Desirable)

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to coach and influence stakeholders, helping them understand and deliver TfL's strategic SHE goals
  • Skills in managing SHE risk management and assurance programmes
  • Welldeveloped collaboration skills, including working across organisational boundaries
  • Identifies problems, analyses and evaluates their implications and develops and implements effective, timely and risk based solutions
  • Ability to provide high quality professional SHE direction to TfL teams in a dynamic environment to very tight time constraints
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with a proven ability to write strategic and analytical reports
  • Good organisational and work planning skills
  • Confidently challenges existing approaches and works with business teams to identify and deliver effective solutions

Experience

  • Understanding of using SHE performance data, other insights and trends to drive improvements in SHE performance
  • Experience in operating at a senior level and influencing senior manager discussions on SHE issues
  • Experience of rolemodelling safety behaviours
