An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our coding team at the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.

We are looking for a Clinical Coding Team Leader to assist with the supervision of the clinical coding team based at Ysbyty Gwynedd.

Main duties of the job


The post holder will:


  • Line manages a Clinical Coding Teams to ensure coding is completed to strict monthly deadlines and to set data quality standards.
  • To provide training and mentoring of all new clinical coders, through provision of training, and mentoring.
  • Act as a lead and specialist advisor specialty advanced Clinical Coder within the Clinical Coding Team
  • Be a link to the Services ensuring that clinical coder/clinical engagement is effective. Work to develop relationships with Divisional Stakeholders.
  • Deputise for the Clinical Coding Site Lead when required.
  • Undertake internal clinical coding audits and feedback results to the team.

The post holder should hold the NCCQ and have experience of coding a wide range of specialties, have a flexible approach to work, be able to manage workload and work as part of a team to tight deadlines.


The post holder will assist the Coding Site Lead at Ysbyty Gwynedd as directed to include issues associated with clinical coding, including the achievement of targets with respect to timeliness, completeness, accuracy of coding within deadlines as well as supporting with auditing and training.


The post will require a highly motivated individual, with the ability to motivate and influence others through excellent communication skills.

They should also have the ability and confidence to suggest and implement ideas to improve departmental efficiency and performance.
