Job overview:


We are looking to appoint a Consultant within Ageing and Complex medicine either on a Full Time or Part Time basis.

  • 4 Acute Ageing and Complex Medicine (ACM) Wards
  • Parkinson's Disease in the Elderly, Frailty Zone on the Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU)
  • Emergency Department inreach
  • Community Services
  • Orthogeriatric Service
  • General Surgery and Trauma Liaison Services

Main duties of the job:


You will be joining our innovative team of 14 Consultant Geriatricians as part of the Ageing and Complex Medicine department.

The post is a substantive post and therefore essential criteria include Full GMC Registration with a CCT (or proposed date for CCT within 6 months of appointment) in Acute Medicine or GIM.

You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to Geriatric Medicine.


The Ageing and Complex Medical Department are also committed to quality improvement projects which can form the basis of publications and presentations at national conferences.

In addition to furthering professional development with respect to clinical aspects of geriatric medicine, there will also be opportunities in relation to furthering skills as a medical educator in relation to delivering the fourth year medical student teaching.

Registration:


Essential criteria:


  • Full GMC Registration
  • Licence to practice with CCT in Acute Medicine of GIM (or within 6 months from appointment)
  • To be formally recognised as Clinical Supervisor as defined by the GMC Trainer Standards

Desirable criteria:


  • To be formally recognised as Educational Supervisor as defined by the GMC Trainer Standards

Qualifications:


Essential criteria:


  • MB BS or Equivalent
  • CCT in Acute Medicine or GIM +/ subspecialty also considered or be within 6months at date of appointment
  • MRCP

Experience and Skills:


Essential criteria:


  • Acute Medicine experience within the NHS.
  • Experience of teaching medical and other staff.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to Acute Medicine
  • Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and their relatives and with other members of the MDT
  • Ability to work and make patient management decisions on own initiative whilst seeking appropriate guidance from colleagues when required
  • Ability to work as part of a team with professional colleagues, both medical and other disciplines
  • Able to demonstrate leadership

Desirable criteria:


  • Membership of appropriate professional societies
  • Familiar with the organisation's values.
  • Experience of teaching medical and other staff
  • PGCME
  • Membership of appropriate professional societies
