Overview of the department and role:

The Commercial team at the Ashmolean operate thriving retail, catering, publishing and venue hire businesses alongside a growing licensing portfolio and picture library.

The profit we generate is invested back into the museum to enhance our visitor experience, look after our collections and further the Museum's research.


Key duties:


You will:

  • Be responsible for receiving inbound deliveries, processing, pricing and replenishing shop stock, accurately entering information into the relevant software. You'll highlight stock issues, inaccuracies and errors immediately, communicating with management and suppliers. Training will be provided on all processes and systems.
  • Ensure stock is safely stored in the correct location and monitor regularly to maintain accurate digital records, carrying out physical counting of stock across multiple locations.
  • Move stock between locations both physically and on the Retail EPOS System.
  • Support the processing and fulfilment of orders in a timely manner utilizing the necessary software for each type of process/order.
  • Attend training on and comply with health & safety, manual handling, security, GDPR & PCI compliance and general Museum procedures and policies, escalating any noncompliance or concerns to management.

Key selection criteria

You will:

  • Have excellent time management, attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Be able to work autonomously and manage workload effectively.
  • Have an ability to work under pressure with a focus on service.
  • Have excellent communication skills and be experienced in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Be comfortable with regular manual handling. This will include lifting and relocating deliveries to the respective shop or stock room locations. Trolleys and lifts are available for heavy items and manual handling training will be provided.
  • Be passionate about retail, achieving targets and support a small team to achieve theirs.

Contract type, hours and working pattern
This is a permanent, variable hours position. You may be required to work some evenings and weekends.


Applying
This role requires lifting and carrying boxes and pushing trolleys to move deliveries and put them away. You may be required to work on your own from time to time.
