As a CNC Metalworking Specialist working for Caterpillar, you will have the opportunity to work with and contribute towards a team of semi-skilled and skilled CNC Metalworking specialist employees.

In this role you will provide expertise and perform more complex metalwork tasks. This skilled role allows you to develop your communication and interpersonal skills as well as use your initiative. You will interact with hourly and salaried employees at your facility and will receive guidance from your Team Leader.

There are opportunities for those CNC Metalworking Specialists who are keen to progress in the production environment and to leadership positions.


Responsibilities:


  • Set up and operate computer numerically controlled CNC metalworking machines where size, shape, degree of angle and size of radius are fully controlled by encoded instruction. Laser cutting machines, punch presses to cut plate steel to size, presses to form angles or radii and performs bending on steel plate. Overrides machine functions and adjust offsets as required.
  • Performs various operations on sheet metal parts such as forming, laser cutting, counterboring, reaming, tapping and punching.
  • Interprets machining programmes, tool layouts, encoded instruction and prints as necessary to operate machines.
  • May be required to operate machine manually to perform rework, missed operations or complete machining of parts.
  • Self inspection of work to required standard from supplied prints.
  • Compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Compliance with 5S programme and other business improvement initiatives.
  • Display behaviour and conduct fitting with our Values in Action.
  • Train other employees if and when required.
  • Any other appropriate duties.

Essential Criteria:

  • Ability to interpret encoded instructions, machining programs, tool layouts and engineering drawings as necessary to produce quality and efficiently operate equipment.
  • The ability to follow and comprehend verbal, specific and detailed procedures and work instructions as well as basic arithmetic calculations in order to perform the duties described above.
  • Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shift patterns and a reasonable amount of overtime.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience working in a lean environment.
  • Attention to detail to meet quality standards.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise sequence of work.
  • Reasonable level of computer literacy.

  • Day Shift

  • £14.48/hr
  • Night Shift £19.31/hr
  • Overtime £21.72/hr (First ten hours)
  • Overtime £28.96/hr (After ten hours overtime)
  • 37.5 hours per week
