The Purpose of the Role:


Lead the evaluation and performance challenge for relevant areas of income, cost and investment decisions with the objective of maximising POL profitability.


Principal Accountabilities:


  • Ensure full transparency, understanding and interpretation of Business P&L's, clearly articulating drivers of direct costs and allocations of indirect overheads.
  • Drive and embed new initiatives to improve the P&L performance.
  • Manage the monthly performance review and challenge process for all relevant areas of expenditure.
  • Manage month end for business portfolio creating packs and reviewing with Business Leads. Feeding data in to GE packs and papers.
  • Manage the review and challenge for specific areas of the functional cost base providing the appropriate high level analysis of performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and driving cost efficiency initiatives.
  • Prioritise performance issues for review in relevant functional and Finance Performance Reviews.
  • Manage the budgeting and forecasting process for the function within the guidelines and timetable established by the Financial Control team.
  • Provide expert advice and an independent view to the Finance Leadership Team, CFO and functional GE member.
  • Evaluate business cases for all commercial decisions, providing challenge to functional heads and Project Managers, making recommendations to improve investment decisions.
  • Approval of Purchase Order requisitions within the agreed company levels (currently up to £0.5m).
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with any specific legislative, regulatory, or contractual requirements.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:


Knowledge required

  • Good understanding of finance systems (particularly SAP and Business Objects packages)
  • Computer literacy / numeracy with strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills

Experience required

  • Significant experience in a 'commercial' finance environment operating at a senior level
  • Knowledge of business case and investment appraisal processes
Qualifications required

  • Broad range of accountancy skills fully qualified accountant with CCAB recognised qualification (e.g. ACA, CIMA and ACCA) and minimum of 5 years post qualification experience.
