  • Do you want to help us make Somerset a better place to live and work? We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven and adaptable person to join the Partnership and Strategic Overview team. You will play a key role within our Flood and Coastal Risk management Department. Your work will be conducted in a positive environment that makes staff happier; focuses on health, safety and wellbeing; encourages leadership and supports your development.
The role is varied and draws upon a diverse range of transferrable skills.

Working closely with other teams, you can expect to be involved in the following:


  • Planning developments
  • Developing a pipeline of projects to bolster and strengthen both the existing and future programmes
  • Working with public and private partners to achieve flood risk management outcomes for our communities
  • Working with and supporting Somerset Local Lead Flood Authority
  • Tracking project expenditure and performance
This post will be based at our Bridgwater Office.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

  • The team
  • Partnerships & Strategic Overview support the whole lifecycle of our flood and coastal risk management assets. We use a wide range of skills to help us plan for the future. They include the examination of data to inform future investment plans, engagement with communities and professional partners and developing strategic approaches to future flood risk management. We work in partnership with communities and other organisations to protect people and property from future flood risk.
  • Experience/skills required Strong organisational and interpersonal skills and a proven ability to communicate and influence at all levels
  • Sound knowledge of project and programme management
  • GIS and data analysis skills would be advantageous
  • Practical approach to problem solving
  • Proactive approach and fresh perspective will ensure you're always looking towards continuous improvement
  • A proven record of working with customers and delivering on time is essential
  • Contact and additional informationThe role will be based at our Bridgwater Offices, with flexible home working included. There is an occasional need to travel, so a full UK driving licence is required. Flexible working arrangements are in place to support your work/life balance.
