Job summary:


This role is a unique opportunity to start your career with a globally recognised finance and accounting qualification (ACCA), whilst playing a part in enabling and supporting the social housing sector that is vital to millions of people across England.


  • The role is a three and a half year graduate trainee scheme, open to graduates (and equivalent qualifications).
You will work at the Regulator of Social Housing completing 6-monthly placements, including:

  • Front line regulatory assessments of the financial and operational performance of landlords
  • Supporting the development of national housing strategy
  • Working with landlords in financial or operational difficulty
  • Working in an operational finance team in our Finance and Corporate Services team

Job description:


The scope of our work and influence is far-reaching, including oversight of the financial and operational performance of social housing landlords, supporting policy making in central government, and ensuring the sector is an attractive investment prospect for the financial markets.


You will work on the front line of our regulation, developing relationships with a range of stakeholders including boards and executives of landlords, reviewing, and assessing business plans and business processes, conducting analysis of organisational data and building insights to inform strategic decision making across the sector.

There will be opportunities to work with our teams' supporting landlords in difficulty and develop an understanding of the operating models used across the sector.

The start date for the scheme will be September 2023.


Person specification:


  • You will work with a wide range of landlords and other stakeholders across your placements on the scheme. You will start out as a team member supporting our core activities and gradually get to work more independently and on more complex projects, taking the lead as you develop your skills and confidence.
  • You'll also have the opportunity to be involved in a range of our other work including support for our publications, investigations, and our larger assessments and investigations which result in highprofile decisions. Alongside this you will be expected to work diligently towards your Chartered Accountancy qualification.
