Description
General Healthcare Responsibilities

Assist individual patients with elements of basic nursing care and the implementation of programmes of care under the direction of a registered nurse

Perform venepuncture and cannulation for patients in day case and outpatient, including for patients prior to starting chemotherapy.

Contribute to the ongoing support of patients and their relatives whilst receiving chemotherapy or whilst attending clinic appointments.


Assist individual patients with activities of daily living according to individual needs including personal hygiene, appearance, oral care, fluid and dietary intake.

Participate in clerical duties as required.

Support qualified staff by carrying out accurate record keeping, taking and relaying verbal and written messages promptly, respecting confidentiality.

Contribute to the clinical governance agenda.

Undertake the collection of routine specimens, e.g. sputum, stool, urine.

Undertake physiological observations, e.g. BP, respiration rate, temperature, pulse rate. Report areas of concern.


Undertake routine procedures, which require on the job training, through a local training session, or a combination of instruction and practice for a particular task, where the post-holder completes the task, reporting any concerns to the registered nurse.
