Contract to start ASAP until with a possible extension.


Job Purpose


To assist service users from location / to location in a caring and sympathetic manner in a way that provides an effectiveLBTH JD and PS Template May 2021 transportation service which meet the needs of Tower Hamlet's multi-racial community.


To work as part of a team in providing a high quality and cost-effective passenger transport function to a variety of clients and users.


To accept individual responsibility for delivering the service standards as set out in the service's 'Staff Handbook for Passenger Assistants' as amended from time to time and any other guidance or instruction provided.


Responsibilities


To assist the driver to ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of the interior of the vehicle is of a high standard.

To ensure all interior windows are kept clean and smear-free.


To ensure that all appropriate and relevant equipment that is required for the journey is on the vehicle and is in good condition.


To assist passengers to and from their homes and to the vehicle and from the vehicle to their destination as required.

To ensure that appropriate records/registers are maintained for passengers and users travelling on the vehicle.


To be responsible for conveyance of messages or the safe keeping of envelopes passing between the passenger's care givers and the school/Centre and vice-versa.

To ensure any medication/equipment transported with the passenger is carried safety and legally.

To operate, after appropriate training, any on-board communication equipment, any other I.T. equipment, radio/other entertainment systems fitted to the vehicle and check they are working prior to any journey.

To operate, after appropriate training, tail-lifts and any other equipment fitted to or carried on the vehicle, to ensure safe and easy loading of passengers.

To ensure that customers in wheelchairs and special seats are adequately secured within the vehicle.

To ensure all safety belts are worn and are properly adjusted and fitted.


To establish and maintain good relationships with the families and carers of passengers and with the service's clients, such as day centre staff and managers or school staff and teachers.

To complete routine reports and any clerical records as required.


To be responsible for the safe delivery of customers to identified destinations making sure that any customer is delivered safely and with dignity.

Where appropriate, ensure a parent or guardian who is recognised or authorised by the Client receives the customer.


In the event of arrangements failing, ensure the service user is transported safely to the place nominated by the service.
