We are looking to recruit an individual who is enthusiastic, compassionate and creative to work as an Occupational Therapy Assistant on one of our Salford Rehabilitation Units.

The post holder will have the support of both a part time Senior Occupational Therapist and a full time Occupational Therapist on the unit.


You will work as a member of the MDT, promoting the importance of occupations and meaningful activities alongside the delivery of therapeutic activities on both an individual and group basis as part of service users rehabilitation and recovery.

Experience within mental health would be an advantage but good communication skills, initiative, energy, and an interest in the therapeutic use of activities is equally important, along with a commitment to the principles of social inclusion and recovery.

The role involves the planning, implementation and delivery of a programme of group and/or individual activities to facilitate an individual's rehabilitation and recovery goals.

This would include both on the unit and within the community, with the oversight and guidance of a qualified Occupational Therapist.


To be responsible for carrying out designated specific occupational therapy assessments and interventions related to self-care, productivity and leisure as directed by the supervising Occupational Therapists, Your day will be led by needs of the service users, but may include facilitating group or one-to-one sessions in cooking, art, relaxation, self-care skills, leisure interests, vocational skills, domestic or social skills to name but a few.

Your role would be to motivate service users, instil hope, inspire confidence, and work collaboratively with individuals to meet their goals and build on life skills

Job Purpose

  • The post holder will support the Occupational Therapists and wider Multidisciplinary Team to deliver a high quality service to patients using a variety of activities and interventions.
  • The post holder will contribute to the ward and OT service through the planning, implementation and delivery of a programme of group and/or individual activities to facilitate an individual's rehabilitation and recovery goals and in accordance with patient's needs. This is with the oversight and guidance of qualified Occupational Therapist.

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ/QCF Level 3 or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Experience

  • Experience of working with people with mental health needs

  • Proven ability to support patients to engage in therapeutic activities
  • Experience of planning, running and evaluating groups

Skills:

  • Range of practical skills which are relevant to the post
  • Ability to engage and motivate individuals who are experiencing difficulties in activities of daily living
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with a broad spectrum of individuals both verbally and in writing
