You will be providing efficient and comprehensive hepatology administrative service to our hepatology nursing team.


The post holder will work closely with the Gastroenterology consultants, their immediate colleagues, Hepatology nurses and other administrative and clinical members of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology service.

This post is 37.5 hours per week (5 days per week) with main working site Hemel Hempstead General Hospital.

This job may involve cross-site working.

The successful applicants will be providing efficient and comprehensive hepatology administrative service to our hepatology nursing team.


The post holder will work closely with the Gastroenterology consultants, their immediate colleagues, Hepatology nurses and other administrative and clinical members of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology service.

They will need to have excellent communicational, organisational and advanced I.T skills and be able to work meeting deadlines and targets.

The successful applicants will provide an efficient and comprehensive administrative service to our hepatology team including being responsible for:

  • The post holder must be fully conversant and competent in the features of the administration system which supports all aspects of the managing outpatient hepatology appointments -booking/cancelling/ rescheduling hepatology.
  • The post holder will be expected to have full knowledge of the contents of the Patient Access Policy.
  • Be responsible for data entry of fibroscan waiting list cards onto the system
  • Be responsible for intended procedure to be correctly entered onto the system.
  • Be responsible for the quality and integrity of information concerning patients kept on systems
  • To be responsible for monitoring all DNA's and rescheduling appointments when required.
  • To be responsible for calling all patients prior to appointment date to confirm attendance.
  • To be responsible for liaising with outpatient department if any clinics need to be cancelled or ad hock clinics need to be requested.
  • To be responsible for answering calls and dealing with relevant queries.
  • Liaise with PALS team when interpreter is required
  • In addition to own workload the post holder will be expected to provide support in the department during annual leave, sick leave and during busy periods where there is an imbalance of work. This includes cross site cover
  • Ensure the daytoday smooth running of the department through maintaining office systems including the development and maintenance of paper and electronic filing systems to ensure the safe transfer and storage of information
  • To act as a first point of contact and to provide an efficient message communication service for the team, as required
  • Be responsible for providing excellent communication and information for patients coming into hospital.
  • Communication with other members of the gastroenterology and endoscopy team.
  • Highlighting any concerns in a timely manner to line manager
  • To attend departmental meetings as appropriate to the post
  • The post holder will be expected to undergo further training when systems are updated and to implement changes into their own working systems
  • To be responsible for the ordering of all departmental stock/non stock stationery and office Equipment
  • To be responsible for departmental equipment being maintained in good working order, acting upon servicing equipment,
  • Reporting of faults, and liaising with relevant departments and services.
  • Any other ad hoc duties as may be requested by your manager
