POST OF:

LOCUM CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC SURGERY
A whole-time post as consultant in paediatric surgery is available now at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a locum consultant post for 6 months.

The appointment is on a whole-time basis.


Any person who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post.

If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis, in consultation with consultant colleagues.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:


The post-holder's duties will be primarily at the Children's Hospital, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust but it is a condition of the appointment that the post-holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations and in outreach clinics within the region.

Clinical


The post-holder will contribute to the provision of tertiary level paediatric surgical care and in the acute general and neonatal surgery as part of the acute rota (1:6).

The post-holder will work closely with other members of the paediatric surgical team, including clinical nurse specialists, in the delivery of high-level care for children and families from the region and beyond.

Teaching/Research


Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust is a teaching hospital trust, and the post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations.

It is expected that this will be an integral part of everyday clinical activity. The post-holder's contribution to teaching, training and research will be included in the regular job plan review.

Clinical Governance


The post-holder will participate in all clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, and external accrediting bodies.


The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

This is an indicative job plan the actual initial job plan worked will be negotiated with the Clinical Director upon appointment.


Annual and study leave arrangements must be co-ordinated within the specialty to ensure there is an acceptable level of consultant cover.
