SYNLAB UK & Ireland have extensive experience of working in partnership with the NHS to deliver and improve pathology services through its existing pathology joint ventures - including Southwest Pathology Services (SPS).


Our team at SPS have been fundamental to the principle of making a positive difference to healthcare within Somerset for 10 years and we have a fantastic opportunity for a Band 4 Associate Practitioner to work within our Point of Care team.

You will support the leadership of Southwest Pathology Services within our HUB Laboratory in Taunton, Yeovil District Hospital and Musgrove Park Hospital.

Our Laboratory holds ISO15189 UKAS accreditation and is an HCPC approved training laboratory.


Hours: 30hrs a week


Responsibilities:


  • Provide support for the day to day operation of the POC service in the Trusts and community locations
  • To be a key part of the team, providing effective delivery of POCT testing
  • To acquire and maintain sufficient knowledge of POCT services to be able to support, develop, maintain and troubleshoot the service
  • To closely liaise with key personnel in all departments, wards and community settings as required to run the POCT service
  • To provide training for users of POCT devices.
  • To monitor and maintain stock for provision of POCT equipment within the Trust/locations
  • To maintain point of care equipment in order to keep them operational
  • To assist with the validation/verification of POCT equipment
  • As directed by the POCT team manager, plan and prioritise work allocations, responding appropriately to the needs of routine and urgent activities
  • Provide supervision, training and professional leadership to junior staff which includes monitoring their performance against laboratory standards and their training plans.

Essential Skills and Experience:


  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 with applied theoretical knowledge, training to Level 4 diploma or equivalent desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Biomedical techniques and practices.
  • Good problemsolving and communication skills, along with the adaptability to change.
  • Good developed interpersonal and team working abilities.
  • Ability to analyse and technically interpret test results.
