Vacancy for a Purchaser at William Garvey Ltd
We are a well-established company of 34 furniture designers and makers based near Honiton, East Devon. We manufacture custom made furniture for high end projects in the UK and abroad. Recent projects include the fit out of residential properties in New York, Sheffield, and London. An exciting opportunity has come up for a procurement specialist to support the workshop and drawing department. This job will suit a versatile all rounder, ideally with good knowledge of the custom furniture industry.
Although experience in procurement would be extremely beneficial, training can be given in the role.
Ideally the applicant would also have the following skills and experience:
- The ability to prioritise your time and be extremely proactive, looking around corners and mitigating problems in advance.
- Good understanding of how timber furniture is made. Preferably worked as a cabinetmaker in the past.
- Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings
- An understanding of how fully fitted furniture and panelling are incorporated into a building and the integration of appliances and sanitary ware
- Good people skills and the ability to build relationships with suppliers.
- The ability to be able to recognise and control quality.
- Preparing materials take offs from CAD drawings and from discussions with the draughtsmen.
- Research materials and fittings and contribute to the design development process.
- Negotiating prices with suppliers to meet project budgets.
- Ordering timber, sheet materials, veneers, custom made metalwork, furniture fittings.
- Chasing up orders to ensure a timely delivery.
- Checking the quality of the goods bought and their suitability for their intended use.
- Storing and distributing materials to the makers.
- Maintaining / checking stock levels
