As an Area Manager, you'll implement and embed the retail operating model and standards across your retail area.

You'll lead and manage the team to ensure our stores deliver sales and profits and provide an enjoyable shopping experience to our customersand members.

It's a field based role with significant travel across Gosport & the Isle of Wight, and to our Head Office in Portsmouth.


Responsibilities:


  • Own and adopt the area operations model; ensure store visit schedules are in place, objectives are recorded and shared, resulting actions are recorded and followuptakes place to ensure organisation standards are in in place and drive operational improvement
  • Ensure stores embrace the store operating model (SOM) using the defined ways of working, systems, policies and procedures that provide operational consistency across all stores
  • Establish a performance culture; Monitor compliance to the SOM through store visits and review of audit outcomes/management information (MI) and take action to ensure every store achieves the required performance standards and legal compliance.
  • Take action to resolve local store based operational issues ensuring all actions are within the SOM standards.
  • Establish constructive relationships with central functions; engage in 2way communication and work collegiately to deliver operational goals e.g. Community, H&S, Recruitment, Employee Relations.
  • Lead communication within the area; plan, organise and run effective meetings, ensuring agendas are published; messaging of organisation initiatives and expectations is clear and action points are recorded and delivered.
  • Actively engage with store teams to seek feedback on their employment experience and provide instruction and coaching to managers to ensure that HR tools (e.g. Welcoming U) are being used as intended.
  • Sponsor and support individual's career development and internal progression; conduct the annual 'People Review' ensuring objective assessment of store manager/duty manager performance (KPI and behaviours) potential.
Actively manage those on formal developmentprogrammes by providing direction, coaching and feedback.

  • Take responsibility for the selection and successful onboarding of new store managers for the area; use Store Manager Training Mentors (SMTM) to 'buddy' with new starters and personally ensure the induction programme is completed and reviews take placeand are documented.
  • Lead the implementation of our Community strategy. Direct store teams to establish and maintain effective community links and actively engage in fund raising and volunteering to promote our brand values.
  • Inspire store teams to deliver great customer service; role model great service and observe colleague/customer interactions on the shop floor and provide feedback and instruction to individuals and teams.

Key experience, knowledge and skills

  • Store management experience
  • Previous multi site management experience (desirable)
  • Proven track record of delivering results in store across sales, profit and people
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and understand financial and performance data
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
  • A proven track record of building quality high performing teams, that deliver results
  • An open and honest communication style and the ability to motivate your team
  • Proven track record of driving operational compliance
  • Experience of leading change management initiatives
  • Experience of developing and managing SMART objectives to deliver performance improvement
