This is an exciting and fast-paced role which gives the opportunity to oversee the administrative functions of the Volunteer Service and project delivery for our Palliative Care Companion Volunteer Project.


We are teaming up with the Anne Robson Trust to recruit and train Palliative Care Companion volunteers to support patients facing the end of their life and ensure no one dies alone.


You will work in partnership with the Anne Robson Trust, Volunteering Services, Palliative Care Teams, Ward Staff, and other Trust Teams to ensure patients and their families are aware of the Palliative Care Companion Volunteer Service and are able to access support if/when required.

The post holder will ensure an efficient, effective and responsive day-to-day operational service supporting this volunteering offer.

The role will work across the trust's geography, taking action to ensure that a high level of customer service is delivered to meet the needs of our volunteers and staff.

The post holder will promote and raise awareness of the Palliative Care Companion Volunteer Support Service


The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the necessary processes are followed to provide the responsive and efficient recruitment and ongoing support of volunteers.

This will include the day to day support of volunteer leads and work experience supervisors across the trust providing guidance with in a framework designed to safely support volunteers.


Central London Community Healthcare (CLCH) is one of the largest community healthcare organisations in London and Hertfordshire, providing our services to diverse communities/boroughs in 11 London Boroughs - Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hounslow, Kensington and Chelsea, Merton, Richmond, Wandsworth, Westminster - and Hertfordshire.


  • With support from Voluntary Services to attract, recruit, train, induct and retain a group of Palliative Care Companion Volunteers when vacancies become available.
  • Raise staff awareness of the role and the function of the volunteer cohort.
  • Ensure there is appropriate and ongoing support and training for volunteers.
  • Promote volunteering (internally and externally) through recruitment and publicity strategies and campaigns.
  • Provide regular contact and support to Palliative Care Companion Volunteers to encourage motivation and loyalty and ensure that their role is valued.
  • Record "soft" mentoring sessions with each member of the Palliative Care Companion Volunteers team regularly.
  • Provide emotional and pastoral support to team of Palliative Care Companion Volunteers and implement a "Buddy" system when have multiple volunteers.
  • Be responsible for monitoring patient, staff and volunteer feedback and satisfaction with overall service.
  • To ensure policies and controls for the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults and Children are adhered to, that volunteers are not placed in situations which paid staff are expected to handle or asked to perform duties outside of their role description.
  • Proactively engage staff throughout the Trust with this volunteering project and equip them with the skills and knowledge to collaborate with volunteers.
  • Support with the Palliative Care Companion project ensuring all objectives are met and stakeholders engaged to achieve the aims
  • Support departments in the initial introduction of volunteers to their teams, to include staff awareness and management training
  • Conduct appropriate background and reference checks where applicable for volunteers
  • Assist local role managers with the ongoing support of volunteers to include induction, training, supervision and reimbursement of expenses.
  • Work collaboratively to monitor, support motivate and accredit volunteers and their work; celebrate volunteering by nominating volunteers for awards, organise celebration events and promote national campaigns such as National Volunteer Week
  • Organise and assist at profileraising events to attract new volunteers
  • Keep up to date with legislation and policy related to volunteering and work experience and make any necessary modifications to accommodate changes
  • Maintain and update our accurate volunteer database, carry out office systems and administrative procedures to achieve high standards of clerical services
  • Manage and measure the delivery of the initiatives for 12 months.
