About The Role

As part of our offer to schools we are recruiting keen, skilled individuals to provide professional clerking services to school governing boards.

The clerk provides the governors with record keeping, meeting planning, minute taking and advice on procedure and legal matters; and is a very interesting and rewarding role.


The posts are home based and term time, with the requirement to attend meetings in school some evenings and occasionally in the morning.

Experience of clerking in a school, is desirable but not essential, as comprehensive training will be provided.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Administrative and organisational support to the board
  • Provision of guidance to ensure that the board works in compliance with the appropriate legal and regulatory framework, and understands the potential consequences for non-compliance
  • Advice on procedural matters relating to the operation of the board.
  • Provision of accurate minutes to reflect the discussion and decisions taken by the board.

Your Skills:


  • You will have excellent organisational skills with a knowledge of minute taking and record keeping.
  • You will be highly organised, confidentially aware and able to keep to deadlines.
  • You will be an effective communicator with strong literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
  • You will have knowledge and experience of governance procedures and legislative requirements or the willingness to attend training and the aptitude to develop this.

Professional Qualifications:


  • Degree level or equivalent and / or relevant experience
  • Enhanced DBS check is required.
