Scottish Ambulance Service - Head of Public Protection


We are looking for an experienced, strategic leader to join our senior team in the Care Quality and Professional Development Directorate.

This role is both strategic and operational, providing professional advice and clinical leadership.

The role will fulfil the requirements of the Child Health Commissioner for the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) as well as being the Lead Professional for Public Protection.

The post holder will provide strategic leadership and assurance to the Associate Director of Care Quality and Professional Development and the Executive Management Team ensuring that the organisation is meeting all of its legislative, strategic and policy responsibilities relating to Public Protection.

This role has a national profile with a direct link to The Scottish Government.

The post holder will work jointly with a range of internal and external stakeholders to lead the self-evaluation for the child health commissioner and public protection work and will ensure related core functions within the service are quality assured.


The post holder will be responsible for providing leadership, direction and advice to drive continuous improvements in service provision and outcomes for children and young people who access SAS services.

This includes working with stakeholders internally/externally to meet and exceed statutory and policy requirements in key areas of service delivery, including GIRFEC, corporate parenting, public health and The Promise.


The post holder will ensure policy, national and local standards, clinical practice and workforce development is in place to achieve safe, effective, efficient service provision underpinned by a model of continuous quality improvement.

The post holder will be required to travel, occasionally overnight, to cover duties throughout Scotland.


Interviews details:
Interviews will be conducted at ScotSTAR Hangar B, 180 Abbotsinch Rd, Paisley PA3 2RY on Monday 29th April 2024. A short assessment may form part of the interview process.
