J&D Wilkie Ltd is a global technical têxtile manufacturing company, with its head office in Kirriemuir.

Job Purpose Overview
Our PVC coated fabrics are strong, durable, waterproof and resistant to dirt, oil, salt, mildew and UV rays.

The Coating Machine allows layers of PVC to be added to a polyester or nylon fabric, which is then heated to desired temperature to cure.

The coating specification is achieved using various plastisol, pigment and additives. Machine parameters allow for desired thickness/weight of coating. The finished roll is then checked, and quality tested.

The main purpose of the role of
Coating Machine Operator is to operate the Coating Machine, carrying out general day-to-day care, calibration and maintenance.

This requires the role holder to have good problem-solving abilities, to address any technical issues, achieving production to the required quality and specification, minimising downtime in production.

Roles & Responsibilities

Always wear correct PPE and ensure others within the department are protected suitably as well.
Follow all health and safety standards and be proactive in improving health and safety awareness.
Report all Health & Safety observations/near miss or incidents to the appropriate line manager, safety representative and/or to the Health & Safety department.
Operate the machine in line with standard operating procedures, understanding it's key parts and their functions.
Report any issues with fabric quality to Quality Control.
Monitor coating quality and report any issues found, advise and assist with corrective actions where required.
Make sure the machine is operating correctly to produce the required end product.
Ensure daily machine maintenance tasks are completed.
Help and support with controls modifications and general improvements to fabric processing.
Ensure machine area and storage areas are kept clean and tidy.
Ensure all chemicals are safely stored and handled, reporting any concerns to Health & Safety.
Complete paperwork accurately and ensure it is kept up to date.
Manage personal time keeping and report any issues that affect your ability to work.
Contribute to recycling and waste minimisation.
Maintain good general housekeeping.

Skills/Competency Requirements

Proactive health and safety awareness
Mechanical awareness to be able understand the functions of the machine and impact of mechanical issues upon quality
Good mathematical ability.
Ability to take initiative and work with mínimal supervision
Ability to interact effectively and work positively within a team environment.
Ability to work under pressure to achieve production targets without compromising safety or quality
Knowledge and experience operating industrial machinery
