The Role:


The University of Cambridge is seeking an experienced and committed individual to join the University's Sustainability Team as Carbon and Energy Team Lead.

The Sustainability Team provides strategic direction to the University on environmental sustainability issues.

It develops and implements long-term plans to reduce the University's carbon emissions, to manage and mitigate its environmental impacts and to comply with regulatory requirements.


The Carbon and Energy Team Lead plays a key role in supporting the Head of Sustainability with management and leadership of the team, and developing the University's strategic approach to environmental sustainability.

Heading up the Carbon and Energy team, part of the Sustainability Team, the post holder is responsible for overseeing and ensuring delivery against the University's carbon reduction commitments, and robust management of its utilities.

The post leads on a wide programme of carbon reduction activity and, as the principal source of guidance for the University on matters relating to carbon and utility management, has extensive contact with staff at all levels throughout the University and with external partners and organisations.

Extensive line management and team management experience;
Extensive project and programme management experience;
Knowledge of a broad range of environment sustainability matters, in particular those relating to carbon and energy;
Experience of contributing to strategic planning and of making complex decisions;
A commitment to achieving results and ability to self-motivate and motivate others.
