The Proctors' Office is an impartial and discrete institution within the University, made up of the Proctors, Assessor, and a permanent secretariat team that advises and supports the Proctors and Assessor in their work.

The Proctors and the Assessor are annually elected senior officers and trustees of the University, and are given considerable powers to act on the University's behalf in matters of central importance to its functioning and its reputation.

The support provided by the Proctors' Office team supports the five main areas of the Proctors' and Assessor's work, namely:

  • governance and scrutiny of University legislation, policy and practice;
- regulation of examinations;
- student complaints and academic appeals;
- student misconduct;
- ceremonial duties.

This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working, with team members presently working three days in the office and two remotely.


About the Role


As part of the secretariat team under the direction of the Head of the Proctors' Office (Clerk to the Proctors), the postholder will provide first-class administrative support to the Proctors and the Assessor to ensure the proper, efficient and fair handling of individual student cases, compliant with the relevant University legislation and policy and with external requirements such as those of the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA).

The postholder will report to one of the casework managers and will work alongside other officers within the team responding to student cases, with a particular focus on academic misconduct.


About You


The postholder will be required to demonstrate good organisational and communication skills; develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the relevant rules and regulations; work effectively with students and staff across the collegiate University, demonstrating tact, discretion and judgement in the handling of sensitive and confidential matters.

The specific duties and areas of work undertaken by the postholder within the section may develop and change over time.
