An exciting opportunity has arisen at the University Hospital of North Midlands to join the team of Gastroenterology Consultants working at our Royal Stoke and County sites.

We are looking for aHPB (ERCP/EUS) Clinical Fellowwho is motivated and enthusiastic individual to provide care and diagnostic services for patients presenting with gastroenterological illnesses.


The Gastroenterology Department is the regional centre for Upper GI Cancer, including Hepatobiliary and Colorectal Cancer, as well as non-transplant Hepatology.

The Department consists of 1 Gastroenterology Ward with 36 inpatient beds and there are 2 JAG accredited Endoscopy departments across Royal Stoke and County sites comprising of 10 scoping rooms in total, offering a range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.

The successful postholder will be expected to provide appropriate care and diagnostic services for patients presenting with gastroenterological illnesses; To be involved in the development of services for patients with gastroenterological problems, in particular ERCP/EUS.

To be involved in teaching and HPB audit/research as appropriate.


University Hospitals of North Midlands has two sites: Royal Stoke University Hospital, located in Stoke-on-Trent, and County Hospital, located in Stafford. From these hospitals we provide a full range of general acute hospital services for people living in and around Staffordshire and beyond. The Trust also provides specialised services for three million people in a wider area, including neighbouring counties and North Wales.


Our specialised services include cancer diagnosis and treatment, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, renal and dialysis services, neonatal intensive care and paediatric intensive care.

We are recognised for our particular expertise in trauma, respiratory conditions, spinal surgery, upper gastro-intestinal surgery, complex orthopaedic surgery, laparoscopic surgery and the management of liver conditions.

The Trust has some of the most modern operating theatres in Europe.


The post holder will train in ERCP and EUS at Stoke and will provide service sessions across both of our sites in Stoke and Stafford undertaking outpatient clinics and endoscopy sessions.

The post holder will also be involved in the GI bleed rota at Stoke.

The fellow will also get exposure to advanced procedures like spy cholangioscopy and therapeutic EUS including EUS guided biliary drainage and vascular therapy.

The fellow will also be involved in the organisation of hands-on ERCP courses and Stoke International ERCP EUS symposium.
