The Role
In a dynamic and fast paced communications team, this role is responsible for creating and delivering integrated digital communications.

We are looking for a talented social media manager to administer, grow and communicate the UK Civil Aviation Authority's aims and objectives across its social media community.


You will be responsible for creating original text and video content, managing posts and responding to followers and managing direct messages into our accounts.

As our social media manager, we expect you to be up to date with the latest digital technologies and trends as well as poses excellent communication skills and be ideas-driven to express the company's views creatively.


Ultimately, you should be able to handle our social media presence ensuring high levels of web traffic and customer engagement.

From time-to-time you may be asked to also support the press office, writing press releases and statements. You will also be a part of the communications on-call rota.

This role is office based (currently 3 days per week) with home working on other days. It does not require extensive business travel; however, some travel to Aviation House (Gatwick) will be expected.


Core accountabilities

  • Lead the creation of content, ensuring we use social media as effectively as possible; using social media channels to communicate the UK Civil Aviation Authority's key priorities and protect its reputation in a creative and impactful way.
  • Lead the daytoday social media monitoring and content publishing working alongside Communications colleagues.
  • Generate, edit, publish and share engaging content daily (e.g., original text, photos, videos and news). This also includes the management of social media planning processes to make sure all activity is coordinated and delivered ontime including contributing to wider Communications planning processes.
  • Produce creative content for announcements, suggesting and implementing new features to develop brand awareness.
  • Maintain, support and further develop as necessary, the implementation of our social media strategy.
  • Communicate with followers, respond to queries in a timely manner and monitor social media channels.
  • Maintaining, and refreshing as necessary, our social media governance policy to constantly enhance the impact and reach of the organisation's social media activity.
  • Regular reporting on impact of social media activity to ensure senior leaders are kept up to date of trends and risks.
  • Support the Press Office media activities, where required, writing press releases and media statements.

About You

  • Expert in social media management including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube and able to advise on other potential channels for use.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of using social media publishing tools to produce creative content, including skills in filming and video production.
  • Experience of evaluating and reporting on impact of social media activity.
  • Ability to translate technical information into consumerfriendly content, including infographics
  • Ability to present information clearly and influence others including senior management.
  • Strategic thinker with ability to plan activity based on organisational priorities
  • Experience of monitoring and tracking delivery and impact of communications activity
  • Creative approach to developing new content including editing and publishing video/audio content.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work in a busy environment, respond to fastmoving situations and give trusted advice to colleagues at all levels.
  • Strong writing skills and experience of writing engaging blog posts and articles, and news releases
  • Experience of delivering communications activity in crisis situations preferable
  • At least two years' experience in a similar role within the travel, aviation and transport sector is preferable.
