This high-profile role within the UKEF Commercial team will provide the opportunity to make a real difference and help shape how this newly formed commercial function will deliver an exceptional commercial service for UKEF.

You will help set the vision and culture to build and create a commercial reputation, highly regarded both within UKEF and within the GCO.

The role requires extensive knowledge of commercial delivery and implementing good commercial practices and behavioural change within an organisation.

You must be confident in leading a team of commercial professionals to deliver on all UKEF's commercial requirements and be capable of balancing commercial delivery with developing the team infrastructure.

You will need to have exemplary knowledge of public procurement processes to lead commercial assurance, particularly for complex and novel projects, and effectively manage this process alongside the UKEF Commercial pipeline.

You must be a self-starter who inspires and coaches their team to be a leading Commercial function.


This role provides a unique opportunity to:

Person specification:


  • Work directly with the Commercial Director to define the vision, strategy, and objectives for the UKEF Commercial Function
  • Responsible for the delivery of the UKEF commercial pipeline, including sourcing strategies and execution of all sourcing requirements, working closely with the category management team and business owners
  • Build effective relationships with external stakeholders across the public and private sector to maximise the sharing of knowledge and learning across sectors, ensuring that UKEF is at the leading edge of commercial delivery
  • Ensure commercial arrangements are robust, achieve the best value for money and comply fully with Public Contract Regulations, departmental commercial policy, and assurance processes
  • Lead on the development and implementation of commercial policies, process, governance and systems in line Government standards and best practice, including measurable metrics to monitor commercial performance and risk, and drive improvement
  • Lead on upskilling commercial capability, working closely with the category management team to ensure the highest commercial standards are maintained, ensuring compliance to existing policies and seeking opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Drive innovation, working closely with commercial colleagues and the business to consistently review commercial processes, policy and governance, and general ways of working calling out opportunities for improvement and taking ownership where applicable
  • Lead on key relationships to ensure UKEF meets all compliance and reporting obligations with external stakeholders, including Cabinet Office and HM Treasury
