Assistant principal - CPD and Induction


Reports To:

Deputy Principal for Teaching and learning


Hours of Work 3 days per week (Hours/days to be confirmed at interview)


Salary:
L6-L10 plus residential allowance (Pro-Rata)

Parkwood Hall is a residential and day school for pupils aged 8-19 years with moderate to severe learning

difficulties and other complex needs including autism and language difficulties. We are passionate about

Parkwood Hall aims to provide an outstanding and supportive learning environment which challenges

students to achieve success. The core learning values, which are at the centre of the curriculum, focus

upon developing the student's resilience and ability to make informed life choices.


Core purpose:


  • To plan and deliver on a full CPD package for teachers, residential staff, business staff teaching
assistants and governors across the academy ensuring that staff can access the necessary training.

  • To align the CPD offer to the schools' strategies and performance indicators.
  • To align CPD with professional development targets in the performance management for
teachers, business staff, residential staff, and teaching assistants

  • To coordinate the provision of CPD by engaging the very best trainers, educational experts,
consultants, and speakers.

  • To support the Trust in developing a full leadership programme to support succession planning
in the school.

  • To develop a strategy for CPD and ensure this is aligned to wider strategies.

Specific responsibilities:


  • To create a calendared programme of CPD across the academy, which is in line with the wider
school strategies including managing the CPD budget

  • To lead a Steering group for CPD, ensuring that there is Trust wide strategy to CPD.
  • To work in a multidisciplinary way with teams across the academy to ensure that CPD is being
informed by current educational policies and responsive to actual practice within the academy.

  • To research, engage and support facilitators to gain the very best skills within the sector.
  • To support the development of the Leadership programmes.
  • To develop programmes of support for all staff.
  • To coordinate and track staff CPD and develop links with external colleges and universities.
  • To support where appropriate with programmes for ECT'S, ensuring a strong early careers
framework is implemented and there is timely response to educational reforms that impact the

staff.

  • To develop the CPD offer to support developments in teaching and learning, curriculum, and
behaviour for learning.

  • To work with other leaders on linking performance management with CPD requirements.
  • To monitor external staff engagement in external programmes.
  • To operationally manage key training events across the academy including INSET days.
  • To track and be able to present to stakeholders CPD and the impact it has on student outcomes
and the effectiveness of the academy.

  • To ensure that all stakeholders are well informed in are part of designing specific CPD packages
across the academy.

  • To ensure there are fair and equitable systems and processes in place for all staff when discussing
CPD for specific groups.

  • Plan and support the induction training of new staff to the academy.
  • Manage the online training portal.
  • Manage the apprenticeship levy pot to use towards apprenticeship and training for existing staff.
  • Liaise and coordinate all staff training with the HR department and Director of Resources.
  • Ensure all training is documented and reviewed regularly
  • Maintain, develop and evolve positive relationships with delivery partners, through monitoring,
mentoring and coaching to improve delivery.

  • To support SLT with inset day training
  • Ensure feedback of all training for staff is completed and reviewed to improve professional
development for staff.


Success criteria:


  • A full CPD programme in place for all staff across the academy.
  • A high % of staff engaging in CPD and reported to trustees termly.
  • Evidence of CPD impacting on helping the academy in meeting key performance indicators with
standards and professional development.

  • Evidence of highquality feedback from all CPD sessions, at least 90% of participants agree that it
will impact on their practice.

  • A raised profile of CPD across the academy and the impact measured in raised standards specific
to care standards, health, and safety standards, teaching assistant standards, or teaching

standards.
