We are looking for a Junior Clinical Fellow in Diabetes.

The post holder will be responsible for the admission and care of patients in Diabetes/General Medicine ward.

Junior medical cover consists of two Clinical Fellows working alongside one Foundation Year trainee and one Internal Medicine trainee. They will be supervised by one Specialist trainee and one Senior Clinical Fellow and consultants.


Junior clinical fellows will be expected to present their cases during ward rounds, maintain full, clear clinical notes, and make appropriate handover.

They are also responsible for looking after ward patients and making necessary referrals. The current duties of the post do not include working out of hours. Middle grade doctors will be present on site to supervise them at all times.

The post-holder will be required to be as flexible as possible in respect of working hours, in order to allow some flexibility.

Duties will include the following however this list may not exhaustive:
For GIM specialities

  • In patient management of patients admitted under the speciality team
  • Day to day care of patients under the supervision of senior medical staff
  • Assessing patients, organising investigations, interpreting and acting on results
  • Attending, and contributing to wards rounds
  • Performing relevant practical procedures where competent
  • Completing appropriate paperwork for patients on discharge and liaising with other specialist teams and GPs regarding relevant follow up
For Diabetes & Endocrinology

  • Making comprehensive assessments, ordering appropriate investigations, interpreting results and formulating initial management plans for patients under supervision by senior medical staff
  • Day to day care of patients admitted
  • Attending, and contributing to wards rounds
  • Performing relevant practical procedures where competent
  • Completing appropriate paperwork for patients on discharge and liaising with other specialist teams and GPs regarding relevant follow up
The post holder will have the opportunity to attend outpatient clinics and undertake agreed audit and quality improvement activities.

There will also be opportunities to take part in teaching and supervision of FY1s, medical students and other health professionals.
