Permanent, Full Time 37 hours per week working Monday to Friday.

Location: 100 Temple Street, Bristol, BS1 6AG. (6min walk from Bristol Temple Meads train station)

An exciting full-time opportunity exists for two experienced and motivated traffic management professionals to join the City Transport Services as 'Technical Lead - Traffic Management Officers'.


What will I be doing?


As part of a friendly and enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team, you will take lead in supporting the delivery of road safety and local highway schemes across the City as well as contributing to the delivery of wider projects detailed above.


You will provide direct support to the Team Manager in the delivery of the aims and objectives of the City Transport service.

You will also take lead in supervising and mentoring staff.


Additional scope within this role will be to assist in the development, implementation of new ways of working as the team evolves to meet the ambitions of a new Council Committee system.

This will provide opportunities to develop your skills in people and change management.


This is a varied role that involves direct liaison with Councillors and local residents to advise on how traffic/transport concerns can be addressed drawing on good practice nationally.

It also involves managing projects and programmes to deliver these improvements by working alongside other bodies such as Avon and Somerset Police, leading the design and construction of changes to the highway directly, or supervising consultants and contractors.


What do I need to have?


You will have a breadth of Traffic Management and Traffic Regulation knowledge and be able to work to tight deadlines to produce work of a high standard.

Being able to communicate complex requirements to various stakeholders including junior team members is essential.


Experience of leading on the composition and proofing of a variety of traffic management interventions and associated Traffic Regulation Orders is fundamental to this role, as well having an ability to support and develop junior officers.


About You

  • Assisting with and developing Traffic Management Schemes and acting as a technical lead member of the team supporting the development of junior officers.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Traffic Management and Traffic Regulation Orders and the processes involved.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation/statutory powers and duties, and codes of practice to implement Traffic Management interventions.
  • Experience in briefings for senior decision makers, presenting reports on relating to the service area.
  • Experience of motivating staff and demonstrating new ways of working.
  • Experience in successfully dealing with multiple stakeholders and key decision makers.
  • Working collaboratively with clients and providing technical direction on projects and highlevel advice on complex technical issues.
