We are currently looking to expand our Transport Modelling team in our Integrated Transport Division.


As a Principal Transport Modeller you will be involved with a range of transport modelling projects working in teams based across the UK and Europe.

You will be working on projects for high profile clients such as TfL, TfWM, HS2 Ltd and National Highways and will have responsibility for delivering modelling work following our best practice guidelines.

You will form part of a national team and be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues in our wider Integrated Transport Division.

What you will contribute to the team;

  • Leading and working on the development of strategic multimodal modelling, public transport and highway modelling projects
  • Project and task management on modelling projects to include model development, calibration, validation, demand forecasting and economic appraisal
  • Checking outputs for compliance with quality requirements and industry best practice and motivate others to do so as well
  • Organise, train and mentor other modelling resources in order to ensure project delivery and staff / team development
  • Provide key inputs to the development of business cases and scheme assessments
  • Liaising with clients and other project stakeholders
  • Undertake business development activities including proposal writing and preparation.
  • Working with the modelling team leader to develop team capability.

Required for the position of Principal Transport Modeller;

  • Committed to providing high quality, affordable and innovative solutions and advice to clients and have good report writing, project management, supervisory, communication and technical ability.
  • A numerical degree at bachelors or masters level or an equivalent qualification.
  • Indepth experience of developing highway and public transport models from first principles and be skilled in the development of robust models to support decisionmaking.
  • Extensive experience of modelling software such as SATURN, VISUM, EMME or CUBE and Diadem.
  • Survey data analysis skills alongside an understanding of variable demand modelling and forecasting (following TAG guidance) are also key skillsets necessary for the role.

Preferred, but not required

  • Experience of one or more of TfL's Strategic Models (HAMs, Railplan, ONE Model, MoTiON)
  • Expertise in Geographic Information System (GIS), MAPINFO or ArcMap
  • Knowledge of microsimulation software such as VISSIM, PARAMICS, AIMSUN
  • Knowledge of Python, VBA and SQL
  • A good understanding of the wider transport planning/engineering environment.
