Job Overview


Responsible for the ongoing maintenance, calibration, qualification and administration of all instruments and equipment of the GLP Laboratories and the R&D GMP Laboratories.

Responsible for the introduction and commissioning of new equipment to the laboratory including computer systems validation.


Main Tasks/Activities:


  • Lead the commissioning and qualification of new equipment, liaising with QA, Procurement and IT meeting project deadlines.
  • Responsible for computer systems validation, including but not limited to Concept Documents, Periodic Review Reports, System Evaluations, FMEA risk assessments, Requirements Traceability Matrix, User Requirements Specification, Functional Specifications, Design Specifications, Configuration Specifications, Validation Plan, Test Plan, Test Protocol, Test Scripts, Retirement Plan, Retirement Report.
  • Coordinate and perform the qualification, preventative maintenance, back ups (where applicable) and the repair of laboratory equipment and systems to ensure all equipment and records are maintained in accordance with GLP and cGMP policies and procedures.
  • Preparation of Standard Operating Procedures, Associated Documents and Risk assessments required for laboratory equipment and computerised systems.
  • Responsible for the processing of purchase orders for Capital Orders in accordance with company policy and tracking to ensure ontime delivery, goods are of appropriate technical specification and to ensure all required associated records are available.
  • Source services for external testing and calibration a coordinate requests for use of such services. Check all incoming information for compliance with stated requirements and completeness of the documentation. Manage vendors and contractors while on site. Oversee any equipment shipments as required.
  • Obtain suitable quotations from suppliers/contractors for equipment and service contracts in conjunction with the purchasing department to ensure fit for purpose
  • Responsible for coordinating the activities required for Capital Equipment Requests and overseeing and planning subsequent qualification of incoming equipment
  • Source and evaluate new equipment and technology, which could improve the efficiency of the R&D laboratories
  • Other duties as requested by management.

Essential Criteria:


  • Demonstrable experienced in laboratory systems and equipment qualification (DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ) and life cycle management.
  • Experience in managing with vendors in relation to identifying and communicating key company system requirements.
  • At least two years' experience working within a GxP regulated Laboratory environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting issues relating to analytical laboratory equipment and systems.
  • High level of competency in numeracy and excellent IT skills, in particular MS Excel, Word.
  • Excellent organisational, planning, motivational and communication skills.

Desirable Criteria:

Due to the nature of the role preference will be given to applicants demonstrating the following desirable criteria:

  • Previous experience managing contractors as well as ordering laboratory equipment and related consumables.
  • Previous experience with Trackwise
  • Previous experience in COSHH and Risk Assessments.
  • A working knowledge of Good laboratory Practice and Good Manufacturing Practice.
