Job Purpose:


Working in a close team of three you will support the network management and operations in the continued drive to improve safety and environmental risk control and remove harm from the operations.

You will ensure incidents are correctly investigated to avoid recurrence including leading investigations when required.

You will also be involved in managing the reduction in harmful occupational exposures to the workforce and in developing innovations to avoid these exposures and in developing innovations to support improvement.

Key Responsibilities:


  • The provision of advice and support to ensure that works associated with Operational delivery comply with relevant SHES Legislation.
  • Ensuring the workforce within London Operations are suitably supported and informed to enable compliance with Cadent Safety and Environment Management Systems.
  • Providing reliable, timely and accurate management information on the areas of SHES showing compliance, trend analysis and identification of areas of improvement.
  • Support and guidance for incident investigations.
  • Undertaking and reporting safety and environmental inspections.
  • Engender and foster a positive safety culture that enables the network to continue driving improved safety performance.
  • Maintaining an up to date knowledge of appropriate legislation, policies and procedures, technical standards and codes of practice, to ensure the provision of a safe and effective service.
  • SHES report and data preparation and presentation.
  • Sharing, promoting, facilitating and implementing technical and procedural best practice.
  • Supporting the design and implementation of the network SHES strategy.
  • Implementing and leading on various safety initiatives as required by the wider SHES teams.

Skills and Experience:


  • Good understanding of Cadent policies, standards and working practices
  • Good understanding of relevant legislation, associated codes of practice, HSE and industry guidance
  • A clear passion for safety is required for success in this role
  • Preferably a safety / environmental qualification, e.g. NEBOSH or equivalent
  • An understanding of risk management principles and tools
  • Relevant prior experience in various aspects of SHES
  • Some practical knowledge and experience gained in operational positions
