Futures Recruitment Services are supporting the local authority with a contract position of a Risk Manager.


As the Risk Manager will be responsible for promoting a positive risk management culture within Peterborough City Council, implementing the risk management framework and approach, and continuing to develop an effective infrastructure for managing and reportingrisk across the Council.


Key Responsibilities for the Risk Manager:

  • Manage the development, maintenance and update of the risk management framework including, risk appetites, metrics and tolerances.
  • Review and analyse both internal and external Management Information to support the challenge of risk owners as part of the risk and control assessment processes.
  • Review and analyse the outputs of the risk owner and control assessment process and preparing risk category level reports for presenting to executive risk category owners.
  • Conduct proactive and ongoing horizon scanning to ensure effective oversight of the external risk environment and consequent implications for the Council's risk profile.
  • Support effective implementation of the council's Risk Management Policy, including the ongoing maintenance of the Corporate Risk Register and the processes underpinning it, and the promotion of a culture of risk awareness.

Essential Knowledge required for the Risk Manager role:

  • Significant experience in processes for the identification, assessment, evaluation, and mitigation of risks
  • Experience working with senior management in organisations Evidence of achievement in a risk / assurancerelated role.
  • Awareness of current best practice and evidence based information that is applicable to the provision of quality services.
  • Evidence of professional, academic or management studies in Risk Management.
  • Commitment to ongoing lifelong learning and personal development.
  • Awareness of the National and Local Government agenda, current issues, and challenges.
  • Evidence of consistently achieved results within a largely unsupervised environment but within a clear accountability framework.
  • Experience in managing stakeholder relationships within complex environments with the ability to manage and resolve conflict, meet challenging deadlines, and deliver under pressure.
