Are you an enthusiastic and experienced support worker, with a special interest in patient's surgical journey?


Following the commencement of the Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) initiative in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICS we have the opportunity for a dynamic and innovative support worker to join our team at NUH.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated and caring individual to join our team.


You will be responsible for the delivery of rehabilitation programmes, using both occupational and physiotherapy skills to patients on the thoracic surgery unit, overseen by registered physiotherapists and occupational therapists.

An understanding of rehabilitation, including after surgery or within cancer pathways, would be an advantage.


This role includes the use of exercise, cognitive assessments and functional activities, early physical interventions, breathless management, pacing and relaxation techniques.

Determining rehabilitation goals and co-ordinating rehabilitation with the multi-disciplinary team and family members will also be an important part of this role.

You will have NVQ 3 or equivalent qualifications. Recent experience working as a Band 3 OT/Physiotherapy or generic support worker is highly desirable.

Duties will include but may not be limited to the information below:


You will work collaboratively with both Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to provide rehabilitation and routine holistic discharge planning to thoracic surgery patients.

You will therefore be able to work well as part of a team and demonstrate good communication and prioritisation skills.

You must be organised, flexible, adaptable and able to problem solve effectively.

You must also have good IT skills and be able to manage and prioritise a case load as delegated by the registered therapists.

You will be able to use their own initiate and work creatively with patients to encourage participation in therapies whilst also seeking support from others when required.


You will support the wider inpatient therapy teams at NUH in the management of and participation of out of hours work.

Our team is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH.

We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 600 staff, who works together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to.

Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists.

We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have pathway AHP backgrounds to support our staff.

There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.

Core hours are worked Monday to Friday

Additional duties will include participation in weekend working. Weekends are rostered with expected frequency of 1:4 dependent on service need and staffing levels
