This is a vacant post at the East Midland's Congenital Heart Centre (EMCHC) based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary Hospital site, to provide and further develop the Electrophysiology service, general paediatric cardiology inpatient and outpatient services across Leicestershire and the East Midlands.

The post holder will join 11 other paediatric cardiologists and 3 adult congenital cardiologists to contribute to the life-time care model for congenital heart disease patients that EMCHC prides itself on.

The EMCHC Interventionist team welcomes your passion and enthusiasm for this specialist branch of Paediatric Cardiology.

The post holder will be expected to have been trained in all aspects of involved in following duties:

  • To provide all aspects of paediatric arrhythmia service
  • To manage patients with arrhythmias (inpatient / outpatient)
  • To provide advice on arrhythmia management
  • To perform invasive electrophysiology studies and radiofrequency ablation procedures on patients < 18 years of age
  • To manage implanted cardiac devices pacemakers, ICD's, CRT's and loop recorders
  • To implant pacemakers, ICD's, CRT's and loop recorders
  • To manage and guide management of children with inherited cardiac conditions (excluding heart muscle disease, aortopathies). If the post holder does not have full training in this aspect then will be provided support as necessary.
  • Potential exposure and assistance with any of the adult EP congenital lists and take part in any ICC clinics cross site.

About the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust: )

  • The post holder will be expected to have at least 2 years of training in cardiac electrophysiology including 6 months of adult electrophysiology training.
  • The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively with wider paediatric cardiology team and senior electrophysiology colleague as required.
  • The post holder will be encouraged to take honorary contract with Birmingham children's hospital and form part of the Midlands arrhythmia service. If post holder wishes provision to perform procedures at both sites can be facilitated.
  • To participate in and continue to develop the Paediatric Electrophysiology service, working with existing team of paediatric and adult congenital cardiologists, surgeons, intensivists and anaesthetists.
  • On-Call Cover Paediatric Cardiology rota currently 1 in 8 but may change with service changes in the future.
  • Consultant of the week duties (currently 1 week in 8) but this may be less with future service developments
  • Supervise and train junior medical staff in all aspects of congenital heart disease.
  • Work to help deliver the NHSE Congenital Heart Disease Standards & Specifications.
  • To undertake outpatient duties for paediatric cardiology in the EMCHC outpatients department.
  • To undertake outpatient duties for paediatric cardiology in one or more of the East Midlands Network Hospitals.
  • Participate in the Congenital Heart Disease Network events and teaching.
  • To encourage a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of patients.
  • Teaching, research and administration.
  • To share with colleagues responsibility for the daytoday management of patients.
  • To promote new ways of working and coordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community.
  • Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
  • To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
  • Teaching, research and administration.
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
