Job Introduction
A part-time opportunity is available for a Finance Assistant to join the Accounts Receivable team based in Plymouth. You will be working 3 days a week, either Wednesday, Thursday and Friday or Monday, Thursday and Friday. The option you prefer can be decided during the interview.

The team aim to deliver a professional service to both its internal and external Customers for NGED.


If you are offered a position, you will be required to complete and provide a satisfactory basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Processing of payments incl. bacs, credit/debit cards, cheques, direct debits.
  • Highlighting and resolving issues associated with fraudulent activity.
  • Creating and processing refund transactions.
  • Matching and allocating of debits/credits in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Investigating and resolution of suspense items on a daily basis.
  • File uploads using IT interfaces between different NGED systems, error handling and resolution.
  • Understanding of debtor ledger entries and month end reconciliations.
  • Prioritising, flexibility and meeting daily targets with emphasis on team work.
  • Reconciliation and control of ledger entries and the applicability of VAT
  • Production of invoices, credit notes, refunds for a range of activities such as new supply connections, alterations upgrades etc.
  • Communicating with the Business representatives and external Customers to resolve enquires and outstanding queries.


You must have previous experience working in a similar high volume environment, and have the diplomacy and communication skills to manage customer relationships, both in writing and verbally.

You should have good interpersonal skills, be self-confident and also have the ability to work unsupervised in a team and be able to prioritise tasks to ensure that deadlines are achieved.


Knowledge of Accounts Receivable procedures and systems would be advantageous as would awareness of associated relevant HMCR or Statutory regulations.

In addition you should be computer literate and have experience of Microsoft Office.
