The Division of Cancer Sciences has recently established a Cancer Consortium to oversee our Masters programmes with an ambition to establish world leading on-campus, online and blended education in Cancer Sciences.

We are developing a portfolio of progressive and innovative programmes, which are inclusive for all learning styles, align skills with workforce needs and provide our students with unique opportunities to learn from our world leading experts.

Our post-graduate programmes include MSc Transformative Oncology, MSc Molecular Pathology of Cancer, MSc Oncology Research and MSc Cancer Biology & Radiotherapy Physics.

Our Division also contributes to multiple undergraduate courses and postgraduate degree programmes within the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health and across the wider University.

These include the MB ChB medical and BDS dental programmes hosted by the School of Medical Sciences, and BSc Biomedical Sciences, BSc Cancer Sciences and various biological sciences degree programmes hosted by the School of Biological Sciences.


Our teaching is delivered via a wide range of modalities including traditional lectures, small group activities, including tutorials and Team-Based Learning, practicals and projects.

Our approach to teaching delivery is team-based, involving academic staff, who may be either research or teaching focused, clinical academics, researchers, PhD students and honorary appointments.

This model is a key component of our research-led teaching philosophy.

To maintain a high-quality student experience, we wish to appoint a Teaching Associate to join our teaching team.

There will be appropriate training and mentorship available, making the post suitable for researchers who are looking to gain extensive hands-on teaching experience.


  • We seek to appoint a Grade 6 Teaching Associate. The fixedterm post will be available from October and tenable for 12 months.
  • You will sit in the Division of Cancer Sciences and be line managed accordingly, you will be mentored and supported as appropriate by other staff members within SMS.
  • You will have opportunities to build and enhance your teaching portfolio for future academic positions.
  • Our Division is dedicated to fostering a supportive and stimulating work environment. As part of this commitment, you will have access to a range of professional development opportunities to develop your teaching credentials and advance your academic career.
  • You will be primarily based on the main University campus, e.g. the Stopford Building, but duties could involve activities elsewhere on campus and online.
  • This post will require a background in biological or biomedical sciences, in particular Cancer Sciences, and you will have a current contract with the University of Manchester from which you can be seconded for the period of the contract; or have a post that is coming to an end.
